I love the 7 Deadly Sins.
Hopefully you do too.
The seven deadly sins are things to avoid in Christian teaching.
They are pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth.
But as a marketer they are like a user guide to human behaviour.
The smartest marketers know these are wired into us and we will follow their scripts.
Here’s a few examples of companies using them knowingly or unknowingly.
Apple – lust. Beautiful devices we lust after and can’t wait to upgrade to the latest model.
Amazon – sloth. Don’t even get up order from your home and we’ll deliver it to your door.
Kim Kardashian – envy. She promotes a dream lifestyle for many and millions follow her every action and try to be like her.
McDonald’s – gluttony. The whole supersize movement. They have now backed away from it because of the health consequences. But it sure was effective.
The Motley Fool – greed. The desire to make more money more easily. Promises of fast wealth are hard to ignore. Con artists also use this.
I hope these examples have got you thinking. How could you apply the power of the seven deadly sins to your marketing?
